March 2011
March 12, 2011: Case does it again! And
this time, he really outdid himself! Case (A Casexx for JT Becker),
won the Open Derby stake (16 starters) at the Conestoga Vizsla Club
Trial in Sumerduck, VA, and was awarded the covetted and historic
CVC Royal Rusty Beanie Trophy! Not only did he win the stake,
but many of the dogs entered were a year or more older than him.
Case now has his puppy and derby points towards his Field
Championship, all by 7.5 months of age. Congrats to his
owners, David & Marie Knight, and his trainer/handler Jamie
Fountain. We wish Case good luck next week in the puppy stake at the
Vizsla Club of America's National Gun Dog Championship. Case
is out of Mae & Cisco. Credit for the photo below goes to Jane
Baker.
March 6, 2011: Case (A Casexx for JT Becker),
at only 7 months of age, took third place in the Open Derby at the
Old Dominion Vizsla Club trial club trial. Having already
obtained his puppy points, Case has moved on to Derby at a very
young age. He has now placed in every stake he has run in for
five straight weekends and has a total of 6 placements in the five
weekends since turning 6 months old and being eligible to compete!
I cannot thank Case's owners, David & Marie Knight, and his
trainer/handler, Jamie Fountain, enough for giving Case the
opportunity and guidance to succeed at such a young age. Case
is out of my female, Mae (Kojac's Maggie's Mae) bred to FC AFC Si
Cisco. Case just keeps getting better every week!
March 5, 2011: March started out great for
Midnight Run bred dogs. Dakota (Crimson's Twenty Gauge Dakota)
won the Open Derby stake (11 starters) at the Vizsla Club of
Illinois Spring Field Trial, marking the second year in a row that a
Midnight Run bred dog has won the Open Derby stake on the Futurity
weekend (Tricky won it last year). Dakota is owned by Mark &
Pam Spurgeon and is out of Nico bred to their male, Ruger.
Dakota's littermate brother, Huck (Midnight Run's Huckleberry) also
took fourth place in the Open Derby. Huck is an experienced
hunting companion, but this was his first ever field trial run, and
also the first time for his owner Bill Newton as handler, making
their performance and the placement all the more impressive. Huck
and Dakota are two very special dogs that I expect to see more great
things from in the near future. Huck's pictured below with his
ribbon, and I also included a photo of him pointing while training
last September. Can you tell I'm proud of these two?
Also, Joel Peterson took second place in the Open Puppy and third
place in the Amateur Walking Puppy at the VCOI trial with his dog
Dorothy (Hey Soul Sister). Although bred by Joel, out of his
dam Lili (who happens to be Rio's littermate sister), Dorothy is
sired by my male, FC AFC Si Cisco. Congrats to the Spurgeons,
Newtons and Petersons on their success over the weekend!
February 2011
February 25, 2011: Case (A Casexx for JT Becker) won
the Open Puppy stake (10 starters) and took fourth place in the Open
Derby at the Mid-Florida Brittany Club Field Trial at the ripe age
of 6 months. Before his win, Case had already amassed
placements in each Open Puppy stake he ran in the three weeks
previous to his win in Florida. Case is owned by David & Marie
Knight from Griffin, GA, and is trained and handled by Professional
Dog Trainer, Jamie Fountain.
February 19, 2011: Dakota (Crimson's Twenty Gauge
Dakota) won the Open Puppy stake and took second place in the Open
Derby stake at the Gateway Vizsla Club Spring Field Trial at the Jim
Edgar Panther Creek Grounds. Dakota is owner-handled by Mark
Spurgeon and is out of Nico bred to the Spurgeon's male, Ruger.
Fall 2010
September - October 2010: As exciting as it is
to compete in field trials and run at hunt tests, hunting still remains a
primary interest, perhaps secondary only to cuddling on the couch,
for many Midnight Run Vizslas. A number of them had success
this Fall. Bill Newton and his dog, Huck (Midnight Run's
Huckleberry), pictured below on the top left, limited out while
pheasant hunting in South Dakota. Huck is not quite a year old
and out of Nico (Midnight Run's Shiloh Femme Fatale) by Ruger (NAFC
2xNGDC DC AFC Crimson's Twenty Gauge Ruger SH). Chuck Moskal
and his girl, Remi, who happens to be Huck's littermate sister, is
pictured below on the top right with her first Grouse. John
Bacik had yet another successful season hunting Woodcock, Grouse and
Pheasant with his dog Bailey (Bailey's Rooster Dreamin), who is
pictured to the right. Although not bred by me, Bailey is
sired by my male, Cisco (FC AFC Si Cisco). Nice job, guys!

August 28, 2010:
Dakota (Crimson's Twenty Gauge Dakota) took third
place in the Open Puppy stake at the Central Wisconsin Vizsla Club
Field Trial at the Ottawa Field Trial Grounds near Eagle, WI,
marking this young dog's first field trial placement. Dakota
is owned by Mark & Pam Spurgeon, and is out of Nico (Midnight Run's
Shiloh Femme Fatale) and the Spurgeon's male, Ruger (NAFC 2xNGDC DC
AFC Crimson's Twenty Gauge Ruger SH).
May 2010
May 29, 2010: Joe and Gabi built on
their performance the week before, and this time took 2nd Place in
the Open Derby stake (15 starters) at the Fort Detroit German
Wirehaired Pointer Club Walking Field Trial at Highland, MI.
I'm very proud of Joe & Gabi's quick improvement.
May 22, 2010: Joe Cronin handled his
dog Gabi (Midnight Run's Gabi) to their very first field trial
placement, taking third place in the Amateur Walking Derby stake (10
starters) at the Vizsla Club of Illinois Walking Field Trial at the
Gingrich-Busch Plantation in Winnebago, IL. Joe is a newcomer
to pointing dogs and the sport of field trialing, so this is quite
an accomplishment for him. I think he has the "bug" now.
Gabi is out of Cisco (FC AFC Si Cisco) and Nena (Shiloh's Midnight
Run).
Way
to go Joe & Gabi!

May 1-2, 2010:
Cisco-sired
pups had a great weekend at the Vizsla Club of Michigan Spring Field
Trial at Ionia. Hobbs (JK's High Hopes Hobby Horse) won the
Amateur Walking Puppy stake (8 starters) and took third place in the
Open Puppy stake (9 starters). Hobbs is owned by Heather &
Brian Van Tiem, and was handled by Brian. This was Hobbs' and
Brian's first field trial EVER! Luke (JK Midnight Delite),
took second place in the Amateur Walking Puppy stake. Luke is
owned and handled by Glen Polley, and this was Luke's second ever
field trial run. Niki (JK Niki No) took second place in the
Open Puppy stake, and my pup, Mia (Midnight Run JK's Fast &
Furious), took fourth place. Hobbs, Luke, Niki and Mia are all
littermates, bred by Ken & Judy Fales out of their dam, Dee (JK
Sunnys Delite), by FC AFC Si Cisco. I cannot believe we didn't get a pick of the littermates together with their
ribbons!
May 1, 2010: Cisco was named the Vizsla Club
of Michigan's Amateur Gun Dog of the Year for 2009. This is
the second year in a row that Cisco has received this award.
April 2010
April 17, 2010: Mia (Midnight Run JK's Fast &
Furious) took second place in the Open Puppy stake at the Vizsla
Club of Greater Cleveland Spring Field Trial at Tri-Valley FT
Grounds just outside Dresden, OH. This was Mia's second field
trial run. She sure liked those Chukars!
April 11, 2010: Proving that field dogs can
still look good, Hobbs (JK's High Hopes Hobby Horse) netted points
towards his bench championship by going Best of Winners at the
Saginaw Valley Kennel Club Show. Hobbs is owned by Heather &
Brian Van Tiem and was handled by Heather in the ring. Hobbs
was bred by Ken & Judy Fales and is sired by FC AFC Si Cisco.
He's a handsome fellow and also talented in the field!

March 2010
March 6, 2010: Tricky, having brushed off the
"rust" the day before at the Futurity, won the very competitive Open
Derby stake (15 starters) at the Vizsla Club of Illinois Spring
Field Trial at the Des Plaines grounds. She ran a very mature
course, handled better than the day before, and had a handful of
very stylishly pointed finds. I was very proud of her
performance, which bested the winner of the Futurity the day before
and a number of other successful young dogs, including the dog that
went on the win the National Vizsla Association's Derby Classic in
Grovespring, MO, several weeks later.
March 5, 2010: Tricky
took 2nd Runner-Up in the 2010 Midwest Vizsla Futurity at the Des
Plaines Field Trial Grounds, just outside Joliet, IL. She was
the only owner-handled dog in the field of thirteen dogs drawn
to run. She had a strong forward race with 3 stylishly pointed
finds. Her performance was particularly impressive considering
that she hadn't seen a bird since her derby win the previous
November, due to an exceptionally cold and snowy Michigan winter.
The day we left to go to the Futurity, we had 9 inches of snow on
the ground at home! Tricky is pictured below with me and the
Futurity Judges, Howard Burbach and Robert Richter (L to R).

November 2009
November 7, 2009: Tricky won the Open Derby
stake (8 starters) at the Fort Detroit German Wirehaired Pointer
Club's Fall Field Trial at Ionia. I've run her sparingly and
been selective about the grounds she's been on, hoping to prevent
her from picking up any bad habits. She ran a forward and very
mature course, held her edges well and stylishly pointed her single
find. She reminded me of her mother, Rio, today. Having
been entered in only a handful of derby stakes and one puppy stake,
Tricky has both her puppy and derby points towards her Field
Championship. The future is bright for this talented
youngster.
Ken & Judy Fales' pup, Niki (JK's Niki No), took
first place in the Open Puppy at the Fort Detroit GWP trial.
This was Niki's first field trial, having just turned 6 months of
age. She was bred by Ken & Judy, and is out of their female,
Dee (JK Sunnys Delite), bred to my male, Cisco (FC AFC Si Cisco JH).
October 2009
John Bacik and his dog Bailey (Bailey's Rooster
Dreamin) have been busy hunting Woodcock, Grouse and Pheasant as
usual. Bailey is sired by my male, Cisco (FC AFC Si Cisco).
Bailey is pictured below with his Woodcock limit each of the first
two days of the season, and while hunting Pheasant in South Dakota.
This guy can literally do it all.

June 2009
June 6, 2009: Cisco completed the first leg
towards his Senior Hunter title at the Vizsla Club of Michigan Hunt
Test at the Ionia Field Trial Grounds in Ionia, MI.
June 1, 2009: It is official. The AKC
has confirmed that Cisco is a Field Champion and Amateur Field
Champion.

May 2009
May 24, 2009: Cisco capped off the spring
field trial season by winning the Open Gun Dog stake (22 starters)
at the Vizsla Club of Michigan Walking Field Trial at the Highland
Field Trial Grounds in Highland, MI. Cisco's win was a 4 pt.
major and finished his Field Championship (pending AKC approval).
What a weekend Cisco had, finishing both his FC and AFC with two big
wins! He is now FC AFC Si Cisco JH.

May 23, 2009: Cisco won the Amateur Gun Dog
stake (16 starters) at the Fort Detroit German Wirehaired Pointer
Walking Field Trial at the Highland Field Trial Grounds in Highland,
MI. Cisco's win was a 3 pt. retrieving major and finished his
Amateur Field Championship (pending AKC approval).

May 3, 2009:
Bailey (Bailey's Rooster Dreamin), owned by John Bacik of Cleveland,
OH, took 3rd Place in the NSTRA Ohio Regional Elimination
Championship (56 entrants). Bailey was the only Vizsla qualified to
compete at the regional elimination trial and is the only Vizsla in
NSTRA Ohio Regional history to place in the Top 6. Because of his
placement, Bailey was invited to compete this October in the NSTRA
2009 Dog of the Year Championship. Last year there wasn't a single
Vizsla at the DOTY Championship, which is dominated by Setters,
Pointers and GSP's. This year there will be at least one! Good luck
John and Bailey! Bailey is sired by FC AFC Si Cisco JH.

April 2009
April 26, 2009:
Cisco was named the Vizsla Club of Michigan's Amateur Gun Dog of the
Year for 2008!

April 26, 2009:
Tricky (Midnight Run Won't Get Fooled Again), in her first ever
field trial run, won the Open Puppy stake at the Vizsla Club of
Michigan Spring Field Trial at the Ionia Field Trial Grounds in
Ionia, MI. Tricky, who was 13 months old at the time, is out
of Rio's 2008 litter by NFC FC Berry's Bad Boy.

April 20, 2009: Nena's pups have arrived!
She had 5 girls and 3 boys. Everyone is healthy and nursing,
and Nena is doing great.
April 10, 2009: Cisco took 2nd place in
Amateur Gun Dog (8 starters) at the Southern Michigan Weimaraner
Club Field Trial at the Highland Field Trial Grounds in Highland,
MI.
April 4, 2009: Cisco took 3rd place in Open
Limited Gun Dog (8 starters) at the Fort Detroit German Wirehaired
Pointer Club Field Trial at the Highland Field Trial Grounds in
Highland, MI.
April 2, 2009: The boys are back in town! Rio
had her pups in the evening. Much to my surprise, and chagrin,
she only had 4 boys and 1 girl. Pups are big and healthy, and
Rio is doing just fine.
March 2009
March 19, 2009: Bela (Cisco x Rio) capped off
her successful juvenile field trial career with an impressive
performance at the National Vizsla Association Nationals in
Grovespring, Missouri. Bela (far right in photo above) took
2nd Runner-up in the Derby Classic. This year's Derby featured
41 dogs, the largest Derby entry in NVA history. Congrats to
Phil Rohs and Bela!

February 2009
February 21-22, 2009: Cisco began the 2009
field trial season on the right foot, winning the Amateur Gun Dog
stake (15 starters) at the Kentuckiana Pointing Breeds Association
Field Trial at the Pike County Bird Hunter's Club just outside
Petersburg, IN. He had 5 quality finds, all handled
flawlessly, and capped it all off with a nice retrieve in the
callback, despite my poor flushing attempt.
The stake was a 3 pt. retrieving major, and Cisco is now only one
retrieving point from finishing his Amateur Field Championship.
Cisco also took second place in the Open Limited Gun Dog stake (11
starters). He had 4 perfectly handled finds, including an
exciting 15+ bird covey find on a far edge early in the stake, and
completed the retrieve. Cisco needs only 3 points to finish
his Field Championship (including one retrieving point).

February 21, 2009:
John Bacik and his Cisco son, Bailey (out of a Raany
bitch), are at it again! First it was field trialing (see
below), and now it's National Shoot to Retrieve (NSTRA). On
Saturday, Bailey competed in his first NSTRA trial.
He had 4 finds and 4 quick retrieves, upstaging his
bracemate (a 3x NSTRA champion Setter), and took 2nd place overall.
He will return for the regional elimination trial on May 2-3, 2009.
Good luck, you two!
February 10, 2009: Rio and Nena have both been
bred to Cisco. These are repeat breedings of previously
successful litters. Rio's litter is a repeat of Bela, who is
once again the #1 Top Ten Puppy/Derby Vizsla in the country.
Rio's litter is due on April 1, 2009, and Nena's litter is due on
April 16, 2009. If all goes as planned, the pups should be
going home in mid to late May. Check out the
Pups/Litters page for
additional info.
January 2009
January 2009: Bela (Silent Bell), out of Cisco x Rio,
is once again the VCA's #1 Top Ten Puppy/Derby Dog. She was
previously the #1 Puppy/Derby dog from June 2008 through October
2008. Bela is scheduled to run in both the Midwest Vizsla
Futurity and the National Vizsla Association Derby Classic in March
2009. Good luck to Phil and Bela!
December 2008
December 6-7, 2008: Cisco capped off a great
6 months of competition before winter by winning the Amateur Limited
Gun Dog stake (14 starters) at the Vizsla Club of Illinois Winter
Walking Trial at the Ottawa Field Trial Grounds near Eagle, WI.
The conditions were extreme, making the win all that more
impressive. Temps hovered around zero, dipping as low as 10
below at times (with windchills even farther below zero), and there
was 10-12 inches of snow on the course at all times. The win
was Cisco's third major Gun Dog win in 2008. All that he needs
to complete his Field Championship and Amateur Field Championship
are retrieving points, which we hope to secure in the Spring.

October 2008
October 18-19, 2008: Cisco took 2nd place in
Open Gun Dog (8 starters) at the Show Me Vizsla Club Field Trial in
Thayer, IA.
September 2008
September 27-28, 2008: Cisco won the Amateur
Gun Dog stake (20 starters) at the Vizsla Club of Michigan Field
Trial in Ionia, MI. This marks Cisco's second 4-point major
win in 2008. He had an excellent course, charging hard to the
front and holding his lines nicely. He had three quality finds
(including two coveys). With only a minute left in his brace,
he disappeared to the front, only to be found a short time later
standing in the field along a far edge, pointing a covey of bobwhite
quail. It was a fitting end to an exciting brace.

September 20-21, 2008: Cisco took 2nd place in
Open Gun Dog (13 starters) and 3rd place in Open Limited Gun Dog (16
starters) at the Vizsla Club of Illinois Field Trial in Winnebago,
IL.
August 2008
August 13, 2008: The pups' eyes are opening
and they are beginning to stand and even take their first steps.
July 2008
July 31, 2008: The pups have arrived!
Nena had 8 pups -- 7 girls and 1 boy! Everyone is doing well
and nursing. Nena is a little tired, but otherwise well.

July 25, 2008: Nena looks about ready to
burst. She's due any day now.

July 20, 2008: Nena is getting bigger and
bigger by the day.

June 2008
June 28, 2008: Nena is pregnant!
June 2008: Phil Roh's dog, Bela (Silent
Bell), who is out of Rio's 2007 litter by Cisco, is the VCA's #1
Puppy/Derby Dog. Proving how important breeding really is to
success in the field, Bela is the fourth generation of #1
Puppy/Derby Dogs. Her mother Rio was #1, Rio's father Raany
was #1, and Raany's father Riley was #1. Talk about some good
genes! Congrats Phil & Bela.
May 2008
May 24, 2008: Cisco won the Open Gun Dog stake (19
starters) at the Fort Detroit GWP Walking Field Trial at the
Highland Field Trial Grounds in Highland, MI. This was Cisco's first
gun dog win, and a big one at that -- a 4 point major! Cisco hunted
hard, handled a stop to flush only moments after the cast-off, and
had multiple finds (three total, including a beautiful edge find in
the woods) when other dogs were going birdless. Not a bad way to end
a short spring season.
May 15, 2008: Nena has been bred to Cisco. The pups
are due in mid to late July.
April 2008
April 27, 2008: Nico is growing...and pointing!!
April 26 & 27, 2008: John Bacik and his dog
Bailey, who is sired by Cisco, took 3rd place in the Amateur Walking Derby (7
starters) and 4th place in the Open Derby (15 starters) at the Vizsla Club of Michigan field trial. This was John & Bailey's
second field trial ever, too. In his first trial, Bailey won the
Amateur Walking Derby and the Vizsla Club of Greater Cleveland
Spring Trial. Way to go, guys!
April 26, 2008: Cisco took 4th place in Amateur Gun
Dog (16 starters)
at the Vizsla Club of Michigan field trial at Ionia, Michigan.
This marks Cisco's first gun dog placement (and also the the first
time he has "gotten around clean" in a gun dog stake). I was
very pleased with his performance (3 finds and a nice forward
race).
April 26, 2008: Nena was named the Vizsla Club of
Michigan's Puppy/Derby Dog of the Year for 2007.
March 2008
March 31, 2008: All of the eyes are open and the
pups are all able to take a few steps at least. Pics of the
pups with their eyes open are coming soon to the
Pups/Litters page.
March 27, 2008: The pups' eyes are opening up and a
few are up and walking around.
March 25, 2008: Welcome the newest addition to
Midnight Run Vizslas -- Midnight Run's Shiloh Femme Fatale a/k/a "Nico." I
expect big things from this little girl. Stay tuned for more on
Nico.
March 18, 2008: The gang has moved into their new
digs in the puppy pen. The pups continue to nurse, sleep and
GROW.
March 15, 2008: Tails have been docked and dew
claws removed.
March 13, 2008: The puppies have finally arrived!
Beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until nearly midnight, Rio had
8 beautiful and healthy pups -- 5 girls and 3 boys. Mom and the pups
are doing well. For additional info and pictures, please visit our
Pups/Litters page.
March 8-9, 2008: Phil Rohs & Bela are hot out of
the gate this spring field trial season. Phil & Bela had a historic
weekend, taking First Place in Open Puppy, Open Derby and Amateur
Walking Derby, and Second Place in Amateur Walking Puppy, at the
Vizsla Club of Illinois Spring Field Trial. Phil and Bela also took
First Place in Open Derby (12 starters) and Third Place in Open
Puppy (8 starters) at the GWP Club of Illinois Field Trial the
weekend before. Congrats, Phil & Bela!
March 6, 2008: With only a handful of days left
till the puppies are due, Rio is getting pretty big. The pups
are very active, and can be felt and even seen moving around. Let
the countdown begin!
March 2, 2008: "Fatty fatty, two by four..."
Rio is now eight weeks pregnant and rather rotund. She has
milk and is starting to "nest," but still eating yet. I expect the
pups to arrive in the next week to ten days. Stay tuned for details
and photos!
February 2008
February 12, 2008: Rio is definitely pregnant!

January 2008
January 6, 2008:
Rio is bred to NFC FC Berry's Bad Boy a/k/a Gus. Pups
are due in early March.
December 2007
December 1-2, 2007: Congrats to
Phil Rohs and Silent Bell, a/k/a "Bela," on their placements at the
Vizsla Club of Illinois Winter Walking Trial. At only 8 months old,
Bela took 1st place in the Open Puppy (10 starters) and 2nd place in
the Open Derby (14 starters). Bela is following in her mother's
footsteps, consistently placing throughout the fall, and now
winning, in both puppy and derby stakes at a young age. Bela also
completed two legs toward her Junior Hunter title earlier in the fall. Bela is out of Rio's first litter, sired by
Cisco. I expect big things from Bela during the 2008 field trial
season.
